Although this album features a photo of the Man in Black alone on the cover, Johnny Cash doesn't actually appear on half of The International Johnny Cash. Instead, the listener is treated to a disc of German translations of Cash's greatest hits performed by Gunter Gabriel, Jürgen Herbst, Ralf Bendix, and others. The other half of this compilation consists of Cash himself performing "Five Feet High and Rising," "Ring of Fire," and "I Got Stripes" in German. Cash first picked up the guitar while he was stationed in Germany after college, so his easy German isn't as awkward as many translated pop stars, and the recordings (mostly from the '60s and '70s) sound pretty good. Fans should keep in mind that he only performs nine of the songs on this 26-track disc, but anyone who has "The Chicken in Black" on both vinyl and CD will get a kick out of this novelty.
