Volume two of Marginal's the Major Lance Story contains fewer hits than the first, but it still has that magical Lance/Curtis Mayfield chemistry. His first recording, "Phyllis," begins a fruitful association with Mayfield. There's more nostalgia with "Delilah," his first record played outside of greater Chicago. As on the previous volume, the Impressions accompany Lance on almost every track. You'll love his melodic, harmonious renditions of "Gypsy Woman," "Little Young Lover," "Mama Didn't Know," "It's All Right," and "Think Nothing About It," with its cha-cha beat. Well-executed tracks like "I Just Can't Help It" and "Ain't No Soul in These Old Shoes" didn't impress the public as much as earlier tracks, but they're just as potent. Look for a volume three featuring his post-Okeh recordings.
