Usually it's best to steer way clear of these sort of budget packages, but this is an exception, primarily because Cooke's catalog has been handled so poorly. This triple album has 30 songs from Cooke's RCA peak, including all the big smashes, and quite a few big and small hits ("Little Red Rooster," "Good News," "Sugar Dumplin'," "Sad Mood," "That's It, I Quit, I'm Movin' On") that don't appear on the only decent Cooke anthology currently in print (The Man and His Music). That makes it a decent pickup if you find a cheap used copy, but the real solution would be to have RCA finally get its act together and give the man the multi-disc retrospective he deserves.
