The Job is the first album from T.A. Kaukolampi, Vilunki 3000, and Tuomo Puranen's Op:l Bastards, a Helsinki-based electronic trio specializing in Kraut-baiting impenetrability. Like its closest peers, Add N to (X) and Knodel, the album is crammed with disparity (everything from opera singing to harsh techno to coin-op hums and purrs), but never sways too far into nonsense thanks to an ever-present, inconspicuous groove. There's a humanitarian side to everything as well, which, despite the soiled samples and the numerous attempts to transfigure a new language all their own, reaches a plateau few other musical chemists will ever have the chance to experience.
