This very interesting album documents a concert that features seven different pianists. Duke Ellington (playing "The Second Portrait of the Lion"), Mary Lou Williams, Billy Taylor, Willie "the Lion" Smith, Earl Hines and the lesser-known and more modern Charles Bell all have individual features. In addition Ellington and Hines team up for "House of Lords," add Billy Taylor on third piano for "Sweet Lorraine" and the concluding "Rosetta" has its composer Hines, Smith, Taylor, Williams and George Wein all sharing the spotlight. Some of the performances (mostly the Ellington tracks) have been reissued on CD but not the concert as a whole.
