AllMusic Review by

Imagine Ministry or KMFDM's oppressive industrial assault applied to the most vicious strains of symphonic black metal à la Emperor, and you may be able to imagine the sanity-obliterating intensity captured on Axis of Perdition's overpowering debut, The Ichneumon Method (And Less Welcome Techniques). With their blast-beat-driven offensive, tracks like "A Ruined Nation Awakens," "My Time, My Reign, My Tyranny," and "Born Under the Knife, Live in Pain" are positively stifling and corrosive, and yet they're hardly mindless drivel, featuring subtly melodic riffing accents that clearly distinguish them as the carefully thought-out compositions that they are. Axis of Perdition seems equally committed to providing a meaningful (if utterly pessimistic and twisted) lyrical experience envisioning a post-apocalyptic urban wasteland, but the band sadly fails to provide the lyric sheets to corroborate this promise. Still, it's quite amazing that just two blokes from northern England are responsible for this ungodly racket, and though The Ichneumon Method's nearly unwavering brutality will make it indigestible for most listeners, extreme metal fans will find much to entertain them here.
