AllMusic Review by

From 1925 until the early '40s, Nat Shilkret led studio orchestras on hundreds of dance band performances. Twenty-three of his more jazz-oriented selections from 1926-1930 are on this collector's CD including "Zulu Wail," "Headin' for Harlem," "When Sweet Suzie Goes Steppin' By," "Hitting the Ceiling," and "Chant of the Jungle." Unfortunately, the personnel is not listed although the vocalists (Jane Green, Johnny Marvin, Lewis James, Franklyn Baur, Frank Marvin, Scrappy Lambert, and Frank Munn) are. The music should greatly interest fans of late-'20s hot dance-jazz music, an idiom that does not get reissued that extensively on CD.
