AllMusic Review by

17 romantic songs from the crack crew of writers, producers, musicians and singers at Philadelphia International Records at the height of their powers. Opening with Teddy Pendgrass' "Close the Door" and ending with the O'Jays' heart-tugging "Lovin' You," this collection also contains some sentimental journeys you might not own, like Dee Dee Sharp's "Trying to Get the Feeling Again," Billy Paul's "Without You," Jerry Butler's "Best Love I Ever Had," and Phyllis Hyman's "Slow Dancin'." Other excellent choices include Teddy Pendergrass' "Love T.K.O.," Shirley Jones' "Do You Get Enough Love," and Jean Carn's "Don't Let It Go to Your Head." With the material that Music Club has to select from, the label could release ten more volumes of The Heart and Soul of Philadelphia of this quality.
