The Grandmaster [Original Scores] Review

by James Christopher Monger

With an evocative score composed by Shigeru Umebayashi (The Real Shaolin, A Single Man, True Legend) and Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken, Taken 2), the soundtrack for Director Kar Wai Wong's Grandmaster, a biopic of Yip Man, the Chinese martial arts master who trained Bruce Lee, offers up a winning and eclectic mix of chamber music, traditional Asian folk songs, and even a pair of classic pieces from Ennio Morricone ("Once Upon a Time in America Deborah's Theme" and "Manchurian Bolero").
