Real Gone's 2014 compilation The Gospel Collection combines the two gospel albums Charley Pride recorded at the peak of his '70s stardom: 1971's Did You Think to Pray? and 1975's Sunday Morning with Charley Pride. Both records were produced by legendary Nashville cat Jack Clement, who gives these records a vibe that is rooted in tradition but living in the present. These aren't reverent performances designed for dusty churches but rather recordings that, apart from a cut or two with a choir, fit neatly alongside Pride's records of the time, making this the rarest of things: a country gospel album that's actually fun and doesn't feel weighed down by its sacred heart.
