AllMusic Review by

Never has a pile of recordings been so ruthlessly exploited and reissued time and time again like the ones Johnny Cash recorded for Sun Records in Memphis. He actually had more hits on the label after he actually left the label than during the time he was officially signed to the label, and the reissues have kept coming ever since. This two-disc set contains 36 tracks of what were primarily issued as singles during and after his tenure with the label, along with a few stray album tracks like "Wreck of the Old '97," "Rock Island Line," and "Country Boy" to fill things out. The overdubbed and sweetened single versions stand in place for the original undubbed masters, giving a clear idea of just how much Cash's music was tampered with after he left Sun, and Sam Phillips and company kept combing the vaults looking for more tracks to issue. This is not the only Cash Sun singles collection out there, but it's still a darn good one to have in the pile.
