While BMG Special Products' The Encore Collection may not be a definitive hits collection or a comprehensive overview of Dolly Parton's RCA recordings, it is a good sampler of hits and highlights from her mid-career country-pop work for the label. Nearly every song here was a Top 40 country hit, with many breaking the Top Ten. These aren't necessarily her best songs, but the hits -- including "Starting Over Again," "Single Women," "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right," "Working Girl," "But You Know I Love You," "Old Flames (Can't Hold a Candle to You)," "Baby I'm Burnin'," "The House of the Rising Sun," and "Potential New Boyfriend" -- hold up well, and help make this compilation of interest to any budget-minded casual fan looking for an affordable roundup of her late-'70s and early-'80s hits.
