There is no explanation of the title of this unusual CD, evidently recorded for radio broadcast only by Sesac; Timmer's Ellington discography also lists a spoken introduction by Ellington not included here. Little-known originals written by Ellington's sidemen and a few outsiders make up the material, perhaps commissioned specifically for this date. The musicianship is top-notch, but the compositions pale beside anything that Ellington or alter ego Billy Strayhorn might have contributed, making this more a curiosity than a mandatory purchase for anyone except the most rabid Ellington collector.
