Marian McPartland, who recorded for Concord for over 20 years, recorded many different types of projects for the label. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Concord came out with a large series of single-disc samplers in 1998, including this look at pianist McPartland's recordings. The dozen selections are taken from 12 different sets and include trio outings; tributes to Mary Lou Williams, Billy Strayhorn, and Benny Carter; a duet date with fellow pianist George Shearing; a guest appearance by Chris Potter; and a version of her "Silent Pool" in which McPartland is joined by a string orchestra. A fine overview.
