The eighth and unfortunately the final volume in this superb LP two-fer series closed the program of Tommy Dorsey recordings partway through the session of March 8, 1939, thanks to the indifference of RCA Records. This very worthy series reissued all of his studio recordings during the four years since he formed his own band, and, although it necessarily included both gems and duds, the former generally outnumbered the latter. Volume VIII is highlighted by "Tin Roof Blues," "Hawaiian War Chant," the two-part "Milenberg Joys" and The Clambake Seven's "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby." All of the volumes in this increasingly hard-to-find series are recommended to serious swing fans.
