The Collection: The Hits of 1971, like the other discs in this Sony budget-line series, is best suited for wedding DJs and high-school reunions rather than casual music fans. Most of these 14 songs were smash hits in 1971, but beyond that, not a whole lot ties them together, ranging from soul to rock to country. Then again, some radio stations in 1971 crossed all of these stylistic designations. Included are John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Santana’s “Oye Como Va,” Tony Orlando & Dawn’s “Knock Three Times,” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
