This CD is a must for any true fan of Irish music, and certainly for any fan of the Chieftains. This four-disc set is essentially an audiobook with music. Written by journalist John Glatt, and narrated by singer Nanci Griffith, this recording documents the entire history of the Chieftains including the biographies of each member. This in-depth review of The Chieftains history also includes audio clips from each band member, as they discuss their unique perspective on a litany of topics. The wealth of musicians with whom the Chieftains have associated over the years are also interviewed here.
Finally, 12 tracks of music by The Chieftains round out the collection nicely. Most of the songs highlight the band's own compositions, including "O'Briens of Clare," "Ancient Irish Fairy Music," and "The Banks of the Moy."
