This 32-song Bing Crosby collection was sort of the companion volume to the Frank Sinatra set The Frank Sinatra Story in Music, issued a decade earlier by the same label. Columbia's design here was a little slicker and the overall contents more generous, but the results are equally good, even if the four years here represent an even narrower corner of Crosby's career -- he is working with Paul Whiteman and Bix Beiderbecke on a number of tracks, and the jazz reference in the title is apt and fair. The CD reissue, via Sony Music Special Products, was well done in terms of sound, though more should have been done to expand the size of the typeface in the text to the booklet.
