French singer/songwriter Emilie Simon released her third album, The Big Machine, in 2009. Recording in New York City with the help of producer Mark Plati, Simon abandoned her native language of French (along with the childlike voice found on her previous albums) to sing almost exclusively in English on this project. Despite these changes, which may surprise some fans at first, the sound is still ethereal -- and distinctively her own.
