Known primarily for one of the most successful underground disco hits of the entire era with the award-winning "Disco Nights," Best of G.Q. compiles some of the finer moments of the group's career for this 1995 release. What is surprising is the number of covers that are included, rather than original material. Renditions of the Taste of Honey chart-topper "Boogie Oogie Oogie" as well as two Billy Stewart classics and an Emperor Soul cover are all included, all done tastefully well. At times the material, notably the slower songs, borderline on what was to later be deemed smooth jazz. On the whole, it's an impressive record and an intriguing look at one of disco's underground hitmakers.
