This collection of pop-soul produced in the United Kingdom will not be everybody's cup of tea. U.K. soul is light and predictable and doesn't have the edge you get with American soul; only the Jimmy Ruffin tracks "I'm Gonna Love You Forever," "Holding On," and "Young Heart (Hang On)" provide any musical escapism. Honorable mentions go to the Faces for "Searching" and "Haven't Stop Dancing Yet," and the two Jimmy James tracks, "Love Fire" and "Reach Out." With producers outnumbering artists, The Best of ERC Records takes you to different places; however, most of the 14 stops are unexciting.
