AllMusic Review by

Beechwood's mid-'80s series of hip-hop and electro compilations played an important role in introducing the sound of American urban electronic dance music to European audiences. The Best of Electro Vol. 1, released in 1995, is a nice distillation of those earlier comps, with tracks by Man Parrish, Cybotron, Warp 9, Egyptian Lover, Hashim, West Street Mob, and the Russell Brothers filling out a good portion of early electro history (although the absence of Miami artists such as Freestyle and Tony Butler is somewhat curious). Released on CD and gatefold double-vinyl LP, this compilation is a sturdy, enduring necessity.
