A valiant attempt at a comprehensive document of the pre-electric Pye recordings of the mid-'60s, with 25 tracks on a single disc (although the total playing time is 73 minutes, not 78 minutes, as the sleeve claims). This has all of the hits from the period ("Colours," "Universal Soldier," "Catch the Wind") and most of the good lesser-known tracks, although one of his best early cuts, "Belated Forgiveness Plea," is missing. Its absence alone is a major strike against designating this the final word on the Pye years. The fact is that not every Pye recording can fit onto a single CD; what's really needed is a double CD that finally closes the book on this period by including every last item.
