The Bernie Mac Show: Non-Stop Funk Party Review

by Rob Theakston

This 17-track selection of musical highlights of The Bernie Mac Show is a fun-filled nonstop romp mixed by legendary hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash that covers some of funk and R&B's finest moments of the past three decades. Tastefully edited and sequenced, it mixes commercial favorites such as the Commodores' classic "Brick House" and Parliament's "Flashlight" with obscure commercial hits like Slave's "Slide" and Lakeside's "Raid." One could even view this as a primer for some of soul music's finest moments in recent pop music history. It's not as hip as some recent TV music soundtracks, but this is definitely one that's far more versatile and timeless than many of its contemporaries and, much like the show it stems from, will be sure to please those who give it a listen.
