The Ballad Era: Harlem, N.Y., Vol. 2 Review

by Andrew Hamilton

Sweet, seminal doo wop from groups mainly from Harlem, NY. Other than skimpy liner notes, doo wop lovers won't find a thing about this collection to complain about. Certainly not the music. Even newcomers to the pioneering style will appreciate the bell-clear, untouched voices and heartfelt efforts from legendaries like the Avons (from Newark, NJ), the Dubs, the Heartbeats, the Harptones, the Flamingos (a Chicago-based group), the Cadillacs, the Rainbows, and more, including Tiny Tim & the Hits (with Tiny Tim being Timothy Wilson, who later sang with the Serenaders alongside George Kerr and Sidney Barnes).
