AllMusic Review by

Sony Classical's 2016 box set The Art of Midori offers reissues of ten of the violinist's best-selling albums in a sturdy case, with each disc protected in a cardboard sleeve featuring the original jacket artwork. The selected recordings date from 1988 to 2003, and include Midori's critically acclaimed performances of violin concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Max Bruch, Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky, Antonín Dvorák, Jean Sibelius, and Dmitri Shostakovich, along with chamber music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Niccolò Paganini, Fritz Kreisler, Pablo de Sarasate, Sergey Prokofiev, and many others. Midori's growth from child prodigy to mature artist is evident in the progression of the recordings, and these albums represent her finest performances, from her precocious solo debut playing Paganini's 24 Caprices to her recitals with pianist Robert McDonald, and concerto performances with Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Christoph Eschenbach, and Mariss Jansons. Devoted fans will no doubt own all of these CDs already, though newcomers will find this collection to be a convenient way to catch up.
