The Ambient Eclipse, produced by Stephen Bacchus is subtitled "sonic navigations through dark, subterranean soundscapes and iridescent, ethereal realms." It is a compilation that includes tracks by Steve Roach, Hiroki Okano, Mychael Danna & Tim Clement, Stephen Bacchus, Robert Scott Thompson, Jeff Pearce, Frank Quasar, David Knight, Peter Ball, and Paul Tedischini. The album is a tour de force, with at least half of the artists being from Canada's Oasis/ Mirage label. The Ambient Eclipse is an exciting and thoughtful look at some of ambient's top working artists today, doing darker, more transcendental pieces. Each of the artists' individual voices comes together creating a uniquely perfect whole. Who would have though that so many different artists from so many different backgrounds could come together and create such a dark, provocative, and unified ambient recording, but indeed they have. The record is a high point unto itself. It's great to hear these artists work so well together. The Ambient Eclipse's release in 1997 was a bit of a harbinger in the ambient genre, as there were many multiple artist compilations to come on the scene in the years that followed.
