AllMusic Review by

This quality release from the Jazz Archives label showcases trumpeter Roy "Little Jazz" Eldridge as soloist and bandleader from 1936 to 1946. Mixing emotional intensity with an upper range that rivaled Louis Armstrong's, Eldridge influenced everyone in jazz who followed him, including Dizzy Gillespie. These 20 tracks sample that influence on sessions cut with Gene Krupa, Fletcher Henderson, Teddy Wilson, Chu Berry, and the Chocolate Dandies. Eldridge's short-lived orchestra and trumpet ensemble are also covered.
