AllMusic Review by

After years of poorly produced split EPs, vinyls, and one full-length album, The Consolation of Pianissimo, Florida's Dear Ephesus has produced an extraordinary album -- The Absent Sounds of Me. Ranging from the catchy post-punk opening track "Looked for in the First Place" to the sit-in-the-corner-and-cry feeling emanating from "The Morning Sings," Dear Ephesus' sound has matured to incorporate all of the extremities of their previous efforts. The rich, lush guitars, hushed vocals climaxing into blood-curdling screams, sharp drumming, and even digital effects sampling makes this album stand out in a sea of warmed-over Christian music. Though Dear Ephesus as a fully functioning band no longer exists, The Absent Sounds of Me has raised the bar for all fringe Christian music recordings.
