This compilation is made up of excerpts from the Texas Jazz Festival during the early 1960s. Clark Terry's name is very prominent; though he is heard on just three of the 11 tracks, his performances ("Straight, No Chaser," "Misty," and "Ow!") easily eclipse those of the little-known players featured elsewhere on the album. The rest of the songs aren't bad, but the producer's boneheaded decision to rapidly fade out almost every track after the soloist is through is extremely irritating. The lack of composer credits (or of musicians) is rather frustrating, too. This long-unavailable LP is unlikely to have been widely distributed outside of Texas, though fans of Clark Terry can probably pass it by due to the inexplicable editing done on this record.
