This hodgepodge collection has two selections apiece from the tenors of Stan Getz (from his first date as a leader), Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas, Ben Webster ("Body & Soul" and "Honeysuckle Rose"), Charlie Ventura (including his hit "Dark Eyes") and Ted Nash (a couple of real rarities). Some of the music had previously been put out by Drive, and most of the cuts are available in more coherent fashion elsewhere. Other than the Hawkins titles, which are from a Cozy Cole date also including trumpeter Emmett Berry and the second tenor of Budd Johnson, the performances are all by quartets or quintets. Fine music, but this budget release is far from essential.
