Rondalis Tandy's haunting falsetto defines the Van Dykes' sound. This, their sole LP, contains their biggest single, "No Man Is an Island," a virtual showcase for Tandy's weeping falsetto. The groups' smoldering two-part harmonies compete with sustained organ chords for wallpapering honors. Its successor, "Hey Mr. Lonesome," recaptures the magic everywhere but on the charts. Their rendition of "Never Let Me Go" clones the Impressions' early '60s version. An unrequited love theme permeates the album as some of the titles -- "What Will I Do (If I Lose You)," "You're Shakin' Me Up," and "I've Got to Go on Without You" -- indicate.
