Janne Henshaw's heartfelt open singing is comforting and has a relaxed, living room feeling to it. The song selections are balanced between Henshaw's own lovely songs and well-chosen covers. I'm not sure why we need another cover of Butch Hancock's "If You Were a Bluebird" (not that it's a bad song), but it's balanced out with the inclusion of "Traditional Stepstone," the haunting waltz time of "Mexican Wind." International heartbreak has never been sweeter. Other highlights are "Maggie" and Henshaw's own "In Your Eyes." Produced by Jeff White, this album is clear and understated. There is no attempt to make Janne Henshaw into a bigger version of herself. This independent release is certainly worth tracking down and is available from CPG Records, PO Box 944, Bloomington, IN 47402 (812) 334-0597.
