AllMusic Review by

This Stash LP has 16 songs from the swing era whose subject matter has something to do with drugs. The most famous selections are "What's the Use of Getting Sober?" (from Louis Jordan's Tympany Five in 1942), "Reefer Man" (played by Baron Lee's Orchestra), and "Minnie the Moocher" (a rare test pressing from 1933 by Cab Calloway). Among the other performers are Cleo Brown, Stuff Smith ("Old Joe's Hitting the Jug"), Frankie Newton, Willie Bryant, Fats Waller ("Reefer Song"), Erskine Hawkins, Slim Gaillard, Julia Lee ("Lotus Blossom"), Freddy Taylor, Jimmy Lunceford, Floyd Ray and Gene Krupa ("I'm Feelin' High and Happy"). There are plenty of fine and novel swing performances on this enjoyable album.
