AllMusic Review by

During 1941, one of Ellington's peak years, not only did he record frequently in the studios but made this CD's worth of transcriptions for radio. Of the 26 selections on this generous set, eight of the songs were never recorded commercially and six others are heard here in their earliest versions, including his theme "Take the 'A' Train" and "Perdido." The all-star orchestra is propelled by the great bassist Jimmy Blanton. Highly recommended.
