Texas bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins had a long and prolific career, and during the 1960s he recorded for countless small labels. This collection was tracked at Nola Penthouse Sound Studios in New York on November 15, 1960, and has been issued on CD before under the same title (but with one additional song, "Black Cat Blues") by Drive Records and under the title Lightnin' in New York (with the same songs in a different sequence) by Candid Records. Hopkins is in good form here, playing mostly acoustic guitar, although he moves to piano for two tracks, "Lightnin's Piano Boogie" and "Your Own Fault, Baby, to Treat Me the Way You Do."
