German smooth jazz? That's as good an encapsulation of this disc as any, though it's hardly descriptive enough. The muted trumpet backed by moving basslines and hypnotic rhythms is more interesting than most of what you hear on smooth jazz stations. Joo Kraus and Helmut Hattler are more interested in exploring the nuances of the music than fitting into playlists. And the hip-hop rhythms seem more natural than on some other recordings in the genre.
