AllMusic Review by

This well-recorded studio session brings together four of the best-known players from the East German free jazz scene in a kind of DDR summit meeting. There was always some movement back and forth between the two Germanies in terms of jazz music, and after the reunification, any existing walls between musical camps on either side pretty much crumbled. These four players are all energetic and driven improvisers strongly influenced by American free jazz as well as the somewhat more abstract and woollier European variety of free improvisation. Much of the playing is superb and will easily satisfy listeners who enjoy this kind of jazz. Some of the players have a tendency to overplay, to throw in a statement of some kind just to seem like have something to do with the music going on. During the moments of more consistent inspiration among members of the quartet this music his some pretty high levels.
