This collector's LP contains the complete Sonny Stitt quartet session of Nov. 20, 1952 (four songs plus four alternate takes featuring Stitt on tenor with the obscure pianist Fletcher Peck, bassist John Simmons and drummer Jo Jones) and a quartet of "new" alternates from a 1956 Stitt date on which Sonny plays alto while joined by pianist Dolo Coker, bassist Edgar Willis and drummer Kenny Dennis. Nothing all that unusual occurs but bop fans should enjoy these hard-swinging straightahead performances.
