All but two of these songs -- all standards, natch -- were released in 1966, when Darin released the LPs Sings the Shadow of Your Smile and In a Broadway Bag within months of each other. Songs from those albums form the bulk of this compilation, which also includes a couple of selections from 1967's Sings Doctor Dolittle and the 1966 single "Breaking Point"/"Silver Dollar." It's very credible swing-influenced pop and show tunes that aren't far from a Frank Sinatra bag, despite the attempts of some writers to establish distance between the two singers. Naturally, it isn't a complete picture of the versatile vocalist's talents. But it should also be pointed out that it's much easier to take Darin's swing-jazz-Broadway-easy listening side in one dose than it is to hear it interspersed among other styles on Darin anthologies.
