Sweet Soul of the '70s: I Love Music Review

by Andy Kellman

Time Life’s 11-disc Sweet Soul of the ‘70s box was broken into six separate releases, five of which were two-disc sets. Sweet Soul of the ‘70s: I Love Music was one of them, and it contains another solid sampling of the box and ‘70s soul as well. However, several artists appear more than once, so the reach isn’t quite as broad as it could have been. Gladys Knight & the Pips have four inclusions, Earth, Wind & Fire have three, and several have two, but there’s no arguing with the songs themselves -- each one represents the best of ‘70s soul. There are no misses here, including Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do for Love,” the Moments’ “Look at Me (I’m in Love),” Heatwave’s “Always and Forever,” and the Emotions’ “Best of My Love.”
