The 1990s may go down in music history as the decade where everybody and their brother decided to reunite long-defunct rock bands. British glam rockers Sweet were no exception, as singer Brian Connelly formed a new line-up of the band, re-titling it Sweet Featuring Brian Connelly (for legal reasons, no doubt), and releasing 1997's GREATEST HITS. But don't be misled: this set doesn't feature the classic, well known renditions of Sweet's party anthems. The 12 tracks that comprise GREATEST HITS are versions re-recorded in '95.
Standouts include such glam stompers (re-done here in rather workmanlike, straight-ahead rock versions) as "Action," "Little Willy," "Ballroom Blitz," "Wig Wam Bam," "Fox on the Run," and "Blockbuster." Although those just discovering Sweet should stick to one of their true best-of sets (namely 1993's THE BEST OF), longtime admirers will enjoy hearing the new takes on GREATEST HITS.
