AllMusic Review by

The sounds on Surrealism are slick, deep, and mellow, but they're not as incongruous as the title suggests. The collection does give a decent overview of downtempo's more pop moments and there are plenty of great tracks. King Kooba and Rae and Christian both deliver tracks that are a cinematic kind of melancholy. Trüby Trio does their best Quando Quango impression on the funky "Carajillo," and LTJ Bukem winningly represents the lighter side of drums 'n' bass. The "Israelites" remix is respectful and includes some wonderful layering of Desmond Dekker's sweet voice.
