Though this Charlie Rich compilation is brief, it is packed with classics. Collections features all original versions of hits by the Silver Fox himself at the very peak of his powers as a recording artist and popular performer. From the biggest hits, such as "The Most Beautiful Girl" and "Behind Closed Doors," to the more sophisticated numbers, such his arrangements and delivery on "My Elusive Dreams" and "Every Time You Touch Me I Get High," the proof is in the grooves. Rich -- who never really got his critical due during his lifetime -- was the rarest of performers: an excellent songwriter, a good singer, and a brilliant pianist versed in all traditions of American music from pop standards to jazz tunes, country, rhythm & blues, and rock & roll. This set has a little bit of everything, but really digs most deeply into his 1970s catalog. Given the price tag, it's almost impossible to overlook this baby.
