AllMusic Review by

The music on the unusual Sun, Moon & Stars set spans 19 centuries, with one piece dating from 130 A.D. Alan Hacker and Tony Coe (usually on alternating pieces but occasionally together) perform a variety of unaccompanied reed solos, the great majority of which are on clarinet. Although there is some improvisation, most of the numbers find the musicians sticking close to the folk melodies that originated from Ireland, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Thailand, and various European countries. The setting is quite sparse and the interpretations are quiet and mostly very thoughtful. Musicologists will enjoy hearing these very rare themes although jazz listeners may get bored rather quickly due to the lack of variety in moods and settings. A heartfelt effort.
