Craig Ogden's Summer Guitar is a Classic FM collection of guitar favorites, played in transparent arrangements for solo guitar or with lush instrumental backings that are appropriate for quiet activities and relaxation. Playing a mix of popular songs and classical pieces that evoke a warm climate, Ogden offers a low-key but enjoyable program that is more suggestive of balmy breezes than the sun's blazing intensity. Of the album's 16 tracks, the majority are mellow and gentle in tone, with only a few pieces, such as Tárrega's Memories of the Alhambra and Albéniz's "Torre Bermeja," displaying virtuoso techniques. On the whole, Ogden offers a calming and up-beat program, as reflected in George Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun," Stanley Myers' Cavatina from "The Deer Hunter," Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell, and Ogden's own Land of the Rainbow Gold, among other soothing and uplifting tracks.
