Pianist Red Garland's final Galaxy set (he only recorded two other records before his death in 1984) is an outing with an all-star quintet: tenor saxophonist George Coleman (in excellent form), trombonist Julian Priester, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Ben Riley. They stretch out on four jazz standards (including "Straight No Chaser," "Everything Happens To Me" and "Strike Up the Band") and Carter's "Receipt, Please." The pianist, who had spent much of the past 16 years living in his native Texas, shows that he could still swing with the best.
