Strike! is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set in a female prep school in 1963. Appropriately, the soundtrack contains 12 pop-soul and R&B hits from the era. It plays a little loose with details -- several of these songs were recorded after 1963 -- but when a compilation contains such hits as Smokey Robinson's "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," Rufus Thomas' "Walking the Dog," Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz," the Essex's "Easier Said Than Done" and Dee Dee Sharp's "Do the Bird," ait's hard to complain. The disc also contains an excerpt of Graeme Revell's score, plus "The Hairy Bird," as sung by the Fingernails, a group Nora Ephron and Glenn Close formed during their prep school days in the early '60s.
