Timbale player Edgardo Cintron leads an exciting Afro-Cuban nonet through nine standards and the group original "Fourth Street Groove" on this stirring CD. The band consists of three horns, piano, bass, drums, and three percussionists all cooking together. Such tunes as "I Remember April," "Maiden Voyage," "Footprints," and even Chuck Mangione's "Land of Make Believe" are successfully Latinized, with tenor saxophonist Jesse Andrus often taking solo honors along with the percussion section. This small-label release should delight Latin jazz fans.
