AllMusic Review by

Storybook presents a live performance recorded in Chapel Hill, NC, in August 1997, as Finisterre was playing its first American concert. The same show was previously released in a limited edition as Live at ProgDay '97 (on Proglodite Records). This edition is better mastered and adds a previously unavailable track, the group's powerful rendition of Premiata Forneria Marconi's "Altaloma." Storybook captures Finisterre at its progressive rock peak, right after the release of In Limine, before the musicians started to vary their activities. The set list gathers the best of the first two albums. The sound quality is excellent, and the performances -- particularly "In Limine" and "Asia" -- are brilliant. But the highlight takes the form of the epic "Orizzonte Degli Eventi," a masterpiece of vintage Italian prog rock (let's not argue about the fact that it was written in the 1990s, OK?). Also worth mentioning are the King Crimson and Genesis quotes -- not really a medley -- used to introduce the musicians in "Phaedra." Fans of PFM, Il Volo, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso have a good place to start in Finisterre's discography. Those already owning a copy of the previous edition will find little incentive to "upgrade."
